There are very few watches in the modern market that look like nothing else — and the IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Top Gun Mojave Desert is one of them. Released in 2019 and carrying into 2020, this is the original 44.5mm ceramic Mojave Desert Chronograph: limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, and the watch that effectively created a new design vocabulary for IWC's most celebrated collection.
This watch has a beautiful tone-in-tone design where the case, dial, indices, hands, and strap all exist within the same narrow band of sandy beige and dark brown, creating a monochromatic composition that is simultaneously stealthy and recognisable.
The brushed finish on the ceramic case amplifies the technical character of the material. The titanium crown and pushers provide the only metallic contrast, a deliberate decision that prevents the composition from becoming overwhelmed by its own restraint. The caseback engraved with the Top Gun fighter jet emblem completes a watch that rewards every angle of examination.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
The IW389103 is powered by IWC's in-house Calibre 69380 — an automatic column-wheel chronograph movement comprising 231 components across 33 jewels, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 46 hours.
