It is the more wearable of the two across the widest range of contexts, and on the wrist it wears with a quiet authority that suits the C65's vintage dive watch character entirely.

The C65 Trident Diver was the watch that proved Christopher Ward's retro dive concept had genuine appeal beyond its price point. Introduced in mid-2018 and available originally in blue, green, and black, it outsold expectations from launch and spawned numerous subsequent iterations and special editions. The hand-wound black variant — identified by its baton hour markers and the SW210-1 movement — is the original formula in its most stripped-back expression. No colour accents, no contrasts: just matte black dial, black bezel, Old Radium Super-LumiNova lume, and a stainless steel case that frames it all with the precision that Christopher Ward's case finishing consistently delivers.

The box sapphire crystal with its blue AR coating on the underside gives the black dial the same depth it brings to the blue — a subtle shift in the way the dial reads that becomes apparent immediately when the watch is viewed side by side against a flat sapphire variant. The 120-click unidirectional bezel, the sculpted case flanks, and the Trident-stamped caseback are all correct. This is a watch that does not require explanation, and does not ask for attention it hasn't earned.
