Blancpain X Swatch - 2023 Fifty Fathoms Scuba 'Arctic Ocean'

WHAT WE LOVE:

The Arctic Ocean is the most historically specific of the five Blancpain × Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms variants. The red trefoil symbol on the dial with its "NO RADIATIONS" text beneath it is a direct reference to the original 1950s Blancpain Fifty Fathoms: the No-Rad version, produced when Blancpain transitioned the Fifty Fathoms away from radium-based luminous material and marked the change with a specific dial symbol to guarantee prospective buyers that no radium was present. Here, Swatch and Blancpain reproduced it in orange, on a watch that celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms.

The Arctic Ocean also carries the vintage-inspired dial layout rather than the modern Fifty Fathoms format: circular SuperLumiNova-filled dot indices, the retro flat-top "Blancpain" typography from 1950s originals, and a no date display. The 42.3mm Bioceramic case — a Swatch Group proprietary material combining ceramic powder with a biosourced plastic binder — is beige, with an orange ceramic unidirectional bezel, and the recycled fishing-net NATO strap in orange and cream completes the composition.
