WHAT WE LOVE:
Ball Watch Company was founded in 1891 to supply the American railroad industry with watches accurate enough to prevent accidents — and the brand has maintained that obsession with legibility, shock resistance, and anti-magnetic protection ever since. The Engineer III CarboLight translates those priorities into a case material that no other watch at this price achieves: a composite of carbon fibre and mu-metal that is simultaneously 50% lighter than stainless steel, corrosion-resistant, and functionally anti-magnetic. The mu-metal layer inside the case encircles the movement and attracts low-frequency magnetic field lines, deflecting them away from the balance wheel and escapement without any disruption to timekeeping.
The luminous story on this watch is Ball's own and genuinely different from every other watch at any price point. The sixteen micro gas tubes mounted across the dial and handset contain tritium gas that glows continuously for up to 25 years with no activation required — no shaking the watch, no exposure to light, no external power. The result, visible in the photograph under any lighting condition, is a dial that reads with complete legibility in absolute darkness without any user intervention. Combined with Ball's Amortiser anti-shock system, the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and the COSC-certified movement inside, this limited 1,000-piece edition is a tool watch with a specific and entirely coherent engineering philosophy. Water resistance is 100 metres via the screw-down crown.
