WHAT WE LOVE:
The Omega Speedmaster Professional Ref. 311.30.42.30.01.005 is a modern classic — a near-identical continuation of the legendary Moonwatch worn during NASA’s Apollo missions. With its hesalite crystal, hand-wound movement, and case design virtually unchanged since the 1960s, this reference represents the most authentic way to experience the Speedmaster’s spacefaring legacy.
The 42mm stainless steel case features twisted lugs and a black tachymeter bezel in aluminium, giving it its signature tool-watch appearance. The matte black dial is clean and highly legible, with white painted indices, luminous hour markers, and the iconic tri-compax layout — small seconds at 9 o’clock, 30-minute totaliser at 3, and 12-hour counter at 6. It’s a dial design that has stood the test of time for over half a century.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
Powering this reference is the Omega Caliber 1861 — a descendant of the Caliber 321 and 861 used during the original moon missions. This hand-wound chronograph movement is tried-and-tested, featuring a 48-hour power reserve and lateral clutch chronograph operation. Though it lacks the column wheel of higher-end chronos, its reliability and space-certified heritage make it one of the most storied movements in horology.
