WHAT WE LOVE:

The Ball Watch company has its origins in tragedy, in 1891 a head-on collision between two trains occurred causing the death of 8 people. The conductor on board one of the trains was unaware his watch had stopped for 4 minutes and then had restarted causing the conductor to misunderstand where his train was in relation to the oncoming train.

As a result, eminent Cleveland jeweller Webb C. Ball was asked to investigate the time and watch conditions throughout the train lines. He subsequently instituted the current United States railroad industry timekeeping program. This program specified which watches trainmen could use. His attention to accuracy and promptness led to the well known saying ‘Get on the Ball’
