WHAT WE LOVE:
This retro-cool Omega is named for the quiet but audible 300Hz humming sound its tuning fork movement makes, and not the military-spec vehicle favoured by a certain Austrian/American film star.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
In the 1970s, tuning fork movements, notably exemplified by the Bulova Accutron, revolutionized watch technology with their high accuracy and smooth sweep second hands. Operating on the principle of a vibrating tuning fork powered by a battery, these movements offered exceptional precision, surpassing traditional mechanical counterparts. They provided a reliable timekeeping basis with deviations of only a few seconds per day, making them popular choices for their accuracy and distinct aesthetic appeal. However, with the advent of quartz movements offering even higher accuracy at lower costs, tuning fork movements gradually faded from prominence, leaving behind a legacy of technological innovation and collectible vintage timepieces.
